With Easter break coming up next week many of the women in the community came by to help clean up the preschool room.
As soon as Robin finished setting up the TV and VCR the children immediately came around to look at the program she was using to test the system. Of the four communities two did not have electricity. The electricity to drive the TV, computers and overhead project was powered by the school’s solar panels. As far as we could find out this is the only operating TV in the community available to children.
The background for the computers was designed by Kent’s wife, Stacy Iler.
Shown here is the preschool teacher getting a tutorial from Rotarian Kent Iler on computer use, with the principal looking on. Ten educational software programs are placed on each computer as well as music for children.
After setting up the computers the older children immediately found them.
Sharing a traditional Mayan lunch in a traditional Mayan home with the teachers at Golden Stream… Standing in the back is Neal Kaufman and Rotarians Robin Kaufman and Mel Honig. This is only some of what we accomplish at each school. Tomorrow’s blog will include pictures and details of other aspects of the mission.
