When Kent and I signed up for the snorkeling/diving expedition we were told we were going to an ‘island’. My comment when we got there is this an island or a postage stamp. Yes, that is the whole island behind me, 35 miles out to sea, and you are looking at the wide side Silk Caye, our little Paradise in the Caribbean.
Tick, Tick, Tick… is that you with a camera Kent?
On Sunday I picked up the last two members of the U.S. team at the airport, Amber (President of the Rotary Club of Elyria) and her daughter Tori. Which one is Amber? After breakfast on Monday we returned to three sites to correct problems (bad computers and VCR/TV combination). We also visited another community, Silver Creek. The principal of the school told us they were still using the all equipment we gave them over 4 years ago.
With the arrival of Elceedia and her son Jahir (on Sunday evening) our team now counted 6. Behind Tori is PG Rotarian Jo, who joined the team for lunch. After lunch Mario returned with his mother (also a teacher) and 4 year old nephew… making our team 9 strong.
We then completed setting up another school but unfortunately for us the children were on Easter Break. We missed their interaction.
Elceedia (a teacher from Dangriga), Tori and Amber, having been on previous missions, go right to work without a moment’s hesitation.
We had enough equipment for an 18 th school. Forest Home was contacted and they immediately came to pick up their allotment. We will set up their center, along with the last two on Wednesday. One school (St. Benedict) did not get any computers as they did not have a preschool. We loaded Mario’s truck with computers and he will install them on Tuesday while we are at the Rotary Club meeting in Placencia. Elceedia and Jahir will also help Mario at St Benedict’s and then back to Little Paradise to correct an TV/VCR problem.
