This morning started many others with breakfast at Grace’s at 7 AM. During this time we make final plans for the day’s activities.
Things are a little different today. Part of the group (four Rotarians and Tori) will be going to Placencia to attend the Rotary meeting while the rest will remain in Punta Gorda to open 2 more centers. First we all go to Progressive to open their site.
Jo, the Projects manager at the PG Club finally meets with Amber to discuss plans for the future, while…
the rest of the team do their jobs… computer help comes from Jo’s two sons…
And everyone else is busy putting together tables and bookcases, checking out electronics and giving tutorials on equipment and software useage.
Getting to the Rotary Club of Placencia we had the opportunity to discuss our project. This was valuable time given to us because in a few weeks the Club will be hosting their District Conference. Before the meeting we met with some of the club leadership to discuss their possible involvement in the project.
Getting to and from Placencia is a bit of an adventure. The town is at the end of a peninsula. The drive is 110 miles each way, or only 50 if you take the water taxi across the approximate 3 mile inlet. What is the plan if it is raining? Everyone huddles under the provided plastic tarp. We got wet… but at least not soaked if we did not have the temporary cover.
Back on terra firma we meet up with Mario who is completing setting up computers at St Benedict’s Primary School. This is the only school we worked at that did not have a preschool. The computers will be used by their 30 Infant I and Infant II students.
